FSMA Section 204 requires food retailers to respond to traceability requests within 24 hours with specific key data elements: traceability lot codes, harvest dates, grower information, first receiver details, quantity and unit of measure at each point in the supply chain. Most supply chain systems were built to record current inventory state, not the full sequence of events that moved a product from origin to shelf.
When every supply chain touchpoint is recorded as an ordered, immutable event at the time it happens, a traceability request is a query. You're not assembling records from four disconnected systems under a deadline, you're querying a log that was always complete because that's how the architecture works.
Incident Recovery Without Reconciliation
When a pricing service goes down mid-update or a catalog sync fails halfway through, the standard recovery path is manual: figure out what processed, figure out what didn't, reconcile the delta, chase partner teams to confirm, restart from a checkpoint nobody can agree on. Every step is a new opportunity for what the system says happened to drift from what actually happened.
