We Solved Memory
Before AI Knew It Needed It
2009
One Architect's Obsession with Memory
It all started in 2009 with our CTO and founder, Allard Buijze.
As a software architect, Allard specialized in software scalability. Recurring performance and flexibility issues convinced him of the need for a solid domain model to build high-performance applications.
So he did what engineers do, he fixed it. Drawing from event-driven systems theory, Allard created the open-source Axon Framework to give applications perfect memory through event sourcing. His radical idea: what if systems remembered every decision they ever made?
2017
From Framework to Foundation
Eight years, he and Jeroen Speekenbrink founded Axoniq. The mission expanded from memory to intelligence—building enterprise infrastructure for systems that don't just remember, but learn and evolve.
2023
The Event Sourcing Backend for AI
The world changed when businesses started adopting AI. Suddenly, everyone needed what we'd been building for 15 years—systems with perfect memory, built-in governance, and the ability to evolve safely. Now we're the foundation for AI. With 70+ million downloads, 65,000 companies, and a thriving open-source ecosystem, we're enabling the shift into this agentic era.
The irony? We spent a decade solving "boring" enterprise problems—audit trails, event sourcing, state management. Turns out, those boring problems are exactly what make AI trustworthy enough for production.
TODAY
A New Chapter Begins
With the arrival of Jessica Reeves and a new leadership team, Axoniq enters its next phase: scaling the event sourcing movement across the enterprise.
We’re doubling down on open source, deepening our focus on AI-native infrastructure, and expanding support for platform engineering teams who need systems that can remember, reason, and recover — at scale.
The future of software is memory-driven. We’re just getting started.
Our vision
To make event sourcing the foundation of every intelligent system — powering enterprise software that learns, adapts, and explains itself over time.
To support developers and teams by building the open-source infrastructure, education, and community needed to make event sourcing practical at scale.
